Telling a human-centered story of educators’ impact on Texas public schools

The Holdsworth Center

United States

Overview

The Context
The Holdsworth Center partners with Texas public school districts to help educators become experts at leadership and to grow stronger leaders within their own systems.

The Opportunity
For their 2022 Impact Report, the Holdsworth Center wanted to create a website that told an engaging, in-depth story about the Center’s work across Texas, and the ripple effect their programs had on leaders, educators and students in 2022.

GRID’s Role
Working in close collaboration with the Holdsworth Communications team, GRID was asked to help shape the visual storytelling approach, design the website and assist the development team in bringing the story to life on the web. GRID delivered mood boards and style frames to help shape the visual style of the site, visualized content written by the Holdsworth staff and created prototypes of the intended web experience.

The Approach & Process

Working closely with the Holdsworth Team, we conducted a four-phase process:

  1. Mood Board Creation: We gathered possible visual directions and samples in order to shape the overall visual direction and tone of the site.
  2. Design Definition: We defined how the site looked, felt, and behaved across a range of content types by prototyping visual layouts and templates.
  3. Detailed Design: We implemented the design direction across the whole website, and embedded copy and visual assets (photo and video) supplied by the Holdsworth Center.
  4. Development Support: We worked with the development team to ensure the story successfully came to life online.

The Outcome

At the end of the project, the Holdsworth Center launched a multi-page website that told a human-centered story of the leaders, schools and districts impacted by the Holdsworth Center’s programs in 2022.

The site used an objective, documentary-style approach, incorporating scroll animation, data visualization, and photography, video and audio recordings of leaders and students, allowing site visitors to empathize with beneficiaries of Holdsworth programs and understand their experience firsthand.

The site launched in January 2023 and received praise from the Holdsworth Center Staff, Board and new and existing donors. Click here to see the site.
